Non pre-emptive scheduling of messages on SMTV token-passing networks

چکیده
Fieldbus communication networks aim to interconnect sensors, actuators and controllers within distributed computer-controlled systems. Therefore, they constitute the foundation upon which real-time applications are to be implemented. A specific class of fieldbus communication networks is based on a simplified version of tokenpassing protocols, where each station may transfer, at most, one Single Message per Token Visit (SMTV). In this paper, we establish an analogy between non pre-emptive task scheduling in single processors and scheduling of messages on SMTV token-passing networks. Moreover, we clearly show that concepts such as blocking and interference in non pre-emptive task scheduling have their counterparts in the scheduling of messages on SMTV token-passing networks. Based on this task/message scheduling analogy, we provide prerun-time schedulability conditions for supporting real-time messages with SMTV token-passing networks. We provide both utilisation-based and response time tests to perform the pre-run-time schedulability analysis of realtime messages on SMTV token-passing networks, considering RM/DM and EDF priority assignment schemes. Neither this paper nor any version close to it has been or is being offered elsewhere for publication. All necessarily clearances have been obtained for the publication of this paper. If accepted, the paper will be made available in camera ready forms by March 15th, 2000, and it will be personally presented at RTS'00 by one of the authors. The presenting author(s) will pre-register for RTS'00 before the due dates of the camera-ready paper.

An Improved Token-Based and Starvation Free Distributed Mutual Exclusion Algorithm
Distributed mutual exclusion is a fundamental problem of distributed systems that coordinates the access to critical shared resources. It concerns with how the various distributed processes access to the shared resources in a mutually exclusive manner. This paper presents fully distributed improved token based mutual exclusion algorithm for distributed system. In this algorithm, a process which...
متن کاملAdding local priority-based dispatching mechanisms to P-NET networks: a fixed priority approach
In this paper we address the real-time capabilities of P-NET, which is a multi-master fieldbus standard based on a virtual token passing scheme. We show how P-NET’s medium access control (MAC) protocol is able to guarantee a bounded access time to message requests. We then propose a model for implementing fixed prioritybased dispatching mechanisms at each master’s application level. In this way...
متن کاملHolistic1 Schedulability Analysis for Distributed Hard Real-time Systems
This report extends the current analysis associated with static priority pre-emptive based scheduling to address the wider problem of analysing schedulability of a distributed hard real-time system; in particular it derives analysis for a distributed system where tasks with arbitrary deadlines communicate by message passing and shared data areas. A simple TDMA protocol is assumed, and analysis ...
متن کاملGlobal Fixed Priority Scheduling with Deferred Pre-emption Revisited
This paper introduces schedulability analysis for global fixed priority scheduling with deferred pre-emption (gFPDS) for homogeneous multiprocessor systems. gFPDS is a superset of global fixed priority pre-emptive scheduling (gFPPS) and global fixed priority non-pre-emptive scheduling (gFPNS). We show how schedulability can be improved via appropriate choice of priority assignment and final non...
متن کاملShort-term Price-based Unit Commitment of Hydrothermal GenCos: A Pre-emptive Goal Programming Approach
The solution of single-objective unit commitment problems for generation companies participating in deregulated markets may not directly be implementable mainly because of neglecting some conflicting secondary objectives arising from policy-making at internal/external environment. Benefiting an efficient multi-objective approach to improve the applicability of price-based unit commitment soluti...
